CPI demands rollback of increased bus fares in Bihar

Patna, Jun 16 (UNI) Communist Party of India (CPI) today demanded that the Bihar government roll back the recent hike in bus fares across the state.
CPI State Secretary Ram Naresh Pandey here said that the impact of the recent rise in diesel and petrol prices by the central government is now being felt by the common people. He alleged that while diesel prices have increased by around 10 per cent, fares of both government-run and private buses have been raised by 25 to 30 per cent. He termed the fare hike "anti-people" and urged the state government to review the decision and hold talks with bus operators to restore the previous fare structure.
The CPI leader stated that fare revisions were first implemented by the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation, following which private bus operators also increased fares. He cited examples, saying the fare from Patna to Darbhanga has reportedly increased from Rs 250 to Rs 300 per passenger, while the Patna-Madhubani fare has risen from Rs 300 to Rs 350.
