Covid toll touches 197 in Bengal; 127 new cases

Kolkata, May 23 (UNI) With four more deaths, the toll due to Covid-19 in Bengal rose to 197,

while confirmed cases touched 3459 in the state with 127 more cases on Saturday.

With 127 more cases, total confirmed cases touched 3459 in the state, while the count of

active cases accounted for 1909.

Altogether 33 testing laboratories in the state are conducting tests for Covid-19, it stated.

While 197 people died of Covid-19, 72 passed away due to Comorbidity.

Altogether 1281 people have been discharged so far, while total number of samples tested

accounted for 1,29,608.

Meanwhile, the West Bengal Government has requested Indian Railways not to run " Shramik Specials" bound for Amphan-ravaged state of Bengal till May 26 as most of the government

officials and agencies were busy for relief and rehabilitation of the affected people.

Chief Secretary Rajiva Sinha in a letter to Railway Board Chairman Vinod Yadav on May 22

has requested not to run any train to bring back the stranded migrant workers from other parts

of the country owing of lockdown for Covid -19.

He said since the state has been ravaged by the super cyclone, most of the government

officials and agencies have been deployed for restoring normal life and rehabilitation work

for the affected people.
