Covid toll rises to 854; Bengal Govt imposes complete shutdown in containment zones and buffer zones from 5 PM today

Kolkata, Jul 09 (UNI) With Bengal recording 1088 new confirmed Covid-19 cases, the highest so far on a single day today taking the tally to 25,911 and the toll jacking up to 854 with 27 more deaths, the State Government clamped complete shutdown in containment zones and buffer zones from 5 PM on Thursday.

The lockdown will be in force for seven days and extended if necessary.

State Home Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay in a directive to

all the District Magistrates, police authorities and

municipalities, said, " Effective from July 9 at 5 PM,

current concept of containment zone

may be combined with the current concept of buffer zone, and together,

they may constitute a revised and broad based containment zone approach. "

" These broader containment zones may be subjected

to strict lockdown,and the following activities, inter alia

may be closed in these areas:: 1- all offices both government and private,

2, all non essential activities, 3-all congregations,

4-all transportation 5- all marketing/industrial and trading

activities, " he added.

The notification said, " Residents of the containment

zones may be exempted and prohibited from attending

government and private offices. In fact the

ingress and egress may be strictly regulated. "

It directed that the local authorities will try to arrange

home delivery to the residents staying inside the broad based containment zones.

However, it allowed the essential services to run as usual in these zones.

According to the latest State Health Department bulletin, the count of discharged accounted for 16,826 with 535 recovering today.

While the discharge rate in the state was 64.93 per cent, the count of active cases stood at 8231.

Total number of samples tested accounted for 5,83,328 with 10,805 tested on Thursday.
