Aurangabad, Apr 17 (UNI) The eight districts of Marathwada region recorded the biggest single-day spike of 7,701 novel coronavirus cases and highest 123 fatalities in the past 24 hours, health authorities said on Saturday.
Details from all the district headquarters collected by UNI show that out of the eight districts of the region, Aurangabad was the worst affected, which recorded the highest number of positive cases ie 1,388 cases and 27 deaths, followed by Nanded with 1351 new cases and 25 deaths, Osmanabad had 580 cases and 22 deaths, Latur registered 1767 new cases and 20 deaths, Parbhani had 735 cases and 16 deaths, Beed had 1005 cases and 5 deaths, Hingoli had 234 cases 5 deaths and Jalna had 641 cases and three deaths.
Meanwhile, during the past 24 hours, a total of 63,729 fresh cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the past day across the state, bringing the total number of infections in the state to 37,03,584.
The state also registered 398 more deaths, taking the death toll to 59,551.
Meanwhile, a record 45,335 patients were recovered in the state, taking the total number of recoveries to 30,04,391.
The state's recovery rate currently stands at 81.12 per cent and the fatality rate is 1.61 per cent.
At present there are 6,38,034 active patients across the state undergoing treatment at different COVID-19 centres and hospitals, they added.
In view of the rising number of cases, the state government had imposed a 15-day curfew in the state upto May 1 under the initiative of ' break the chain’ exempting emergency services.
