COVID: Jammu School Education’s Psychological Task Force, Counselling Cell sensitise around 20,000 individuals on ‘Manodarpan’

Jammu, Aug 13 (UNI) Around 20,000 individuals have been sensitised on ‘Manodarpan’ by the Psychological Task Force and Counselling Cell of Directorate of School Education, Jammu.
Director School Education Jammu, Anuradha Gupta here on Wednesday said that approximately 20,000 individuals were sensitised by Psychological Task Force and counselling cell members on ‘Manodarpan’ including students, teachers and civil society members and its recently launched helpline.
“Some IEC material was developed and disseminated to make it easy for students to understand the function of Manodarpan,” she said and added that through its Counselling Cell, lead has been taken in the implementation of ‘Manodarpan’, an initiative of Ministry of Human Resource Development to provide psychological support and counselling to students, teachers and families for mental health and emotional well-being in Jammu Division.
Ms Gupta while instructing counselling cell members said, “COVID-19 pandemic has enormously increased the psychosocial and mental health needs of individuals and there is a need to upscale counselling initiatives to ensure the well-being of individuals”.
Divisional Level Psychological Task Force consisting of faculty members was also constituted and they were trained to brush up their counselling skills by Counselling Cell in collaboration with Bhartiya Counselling Psychology Association.
Since lockdown, she said that tele-counselling helpline “Aao Baat karein” has resolved approximately 4,000 queries and WhatsApp facility at its helpline was also initiated to facilitate shy students who hesitate to call.
“Under the ‘Manodarpan’ theme, a series of webinars are being organised by a counselling cell DSEJ covering different themes viz. Road map for implementing it, Ensuring Well-Being during corona times, Emotional-Behavioural issues in children, Examination stress, life beyond marks, career guidance, stress management, drug abuse, mental health issues, etc,” she said and added that these webinars have already benefitted thousands of students, teachers and parents.
Head Counselling Cell, Romesh Sharma, has asked the task force members to do a mental health needs assessment in their respective zones and be prepared for more mental health challenges ahead due to COVID-19 pandemic.
