New Delhi, Mar 29 (UNI) India head coach Ravi Shastri on Sunday urged people to stay indoors, saying 'only thing flying around the world like a tracer bullet is this bloody Corona', using his famous cliche to convey his message of staying home at all costs.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi ordered a 21-day lockdown in India on March 24 with only essential services being functional in the country while everything else has been shut down.
Many sports figures have been taking to social media to spread awareness about the virus, urging everybody to obey the government's orders. Shastri is the latest to reach out to his followers on social media.
"Stay indoors people. Crucial phase this. Only thing flying around the world like a tracer bullet is this bloody Corona (COVID-19). Stay in before the bugger gets you," Shastri posted on Twitter.
The pandemic has also brought sports to a standstill after leading to cancellation and postponement of events, including the Tokyo Olympics and European Football Championships.
Like every other sports, cricket has also been affected with all international and domestic fixtures being called off due to the outbreak of COVID-19.
Shastri had earlier called the forced break a "welcome rest" for his busy national team players.
"(This rest) cannot be a bad thing because towards the end of the New Zealand tour, you could see some cracks coming up when it came to mental fatigue, physical fitness and injuries," Shastri had said.
According to Shastri, the players may use the time to re-energise themselves, especially after a gruelling New Zealand tour where India played five T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests.
With 106 fresh cases and six deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in India rose to 979 including 25 deaths on Sunday, the Health Ministry said.
