Coronavirus: J&K Govt sets up ‘isolation wards’ at Gandhi Nagar hospital

Jammu, Jan 29 (UNI) In view of deadly coronavirus outbreak in China, Jammu and Kashmir Government has geared itself and established ‘isolation wards’ at Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar here.
“We are monitoring the situation but as precautionary measures, ‘isolation wards’ have been set up at Gandhi Nagar situated Government Hospital for the check up of suspected patients and those who are arriving Jammu by train, by air,” official sources said on Wednesday.
“Directions have been issued from higher authorities that anybody reaching Jammu after making its stay in China and in the countries, which are affected due to epidemic, must be screened at the railway station, airports or even bus stands,” they added.
“Isolation ward has been set up at Gandhi Nagar hospital to treat suspected cases and those who are tested positive,” they added and said the government has issued an advisory and to keep check on such suspected cases, isolation ward has been created.
“A team of doctors has been put on alert 24x7 besides some para-medical staff, nurses and basic important medicines and drugs required to treat the patient if any tested positive,” they said.
On Tuesday, while announcing a slew of measures to check any suspected cases of Corona Virus, the government of Jammu and Kashmir ordered screening of people at airports arriving from China, Nepal and other countries.
The government ordered establishment of Control room in the office of State Surveillance Office at Srinagar and Jammu, quarantine of suspected patients, advisory to all the districts and announcements to be made on railways stations, airports besides other measures.
The newly identified corona virus called 2019-nCoV has been spreading in China, and has now reached several other countries claiming many lives.
“Adequate measures are being made to identify passengers with symptoms of the disease and directed the officers to make arrangements to isolate any suspected case to curb the spread of the virus,” said an official.
He said that an advisory has been issued to all the Deputy Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir to step up their preparedness to tackle any suspected cases.
