Coronavirus: Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan confirms 99 new cases

Tokyo, Feb 17 (UNI) Japan on Monday confirmed 99 new cases in the Coronavirus-stricken Princess Diamond cruise ship docked in Japan, which remains quarantined in Yokohama.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections to 454.

According to The Guardian, the confirmation of 99 extra cases on the ship, which remains quarantined in Yokohama, comes as concern grows over possible infections among passengers from another cruise liner that was docked in Cambodia last week.

There were about 340 Americans aboard the Diamond Princess ship, which had been docked off Yokohama since February 3, after an outbreak of the new COVID-19 disease was detected.

Meanwhile, hundreds of American passengers on the Diamond Princess, where travellers have been mostly confined to their cabins since February 3, have been flown back to the US. Fourteen passengers tested positive during the evacuation, the US State Department said. The death toll in mainland China reached 1,770, with the figure of total cases going up to 70,548.
