Coronavirus casts shadow on Haridwar Mahakumbh

Haridwar, Apr 8(UNI) The Covid-19 pandemic has severely hit preparations for the Mahakumbh to be held in the holy city in January 2021.
Nearly ten crore pilgrims, both from across the country and abroad, are expected to congregate in the holy city to take holy dips in the Ganga. Since all the construction activities have come to a halt, there are doubts on completion of the Kumbh projects on time, Mahant Ravindra Puri, the secretary of Niranjni Akhara and a prominent saint here said on Wednesday.
''Work on the Kumbh projects, which was already going slow, would now be further delayed due to lockdown. With the mega cultural event only nine months away, it is almost impossible to complete temporary and permanent projects, such as construction of ghats, building of bridges and completing the remaining work on national highway 58 , which has been hanging fire for the last 10 years,'' the mahant stated.
