Congress will promise inclusion of Maithili in School curriculum in its manifesto

Patna, Jul 10 (UNI) Congress MLC Prem Chandra Mishra today said his party would promise for re-inclusion of Maithili language in School curriculum in its manifesto for Bihar Assembly elections slated for October- November this year.
Mr Mishra said that a decision to this effect was taken in state working committee of the party held last evening. The proposal moved by him was accepted unanimously in the meeting, he added.
The Congress leader said, Maithili language used to be taught in schools in Bihar earlier but under a well hatched strategy it was discontinued when Nitish Kumar government was voted to power in 2005. Even printing of books of Maithili was stopped and students were denied the opportunity to study this language, he added.
Mr Mishra said that not keeping Maithili in school curriculum was injustice to millions of Maithili speaking people. He also expressed his gratitude to All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Shakti Singh Gohil for his support in getting the resolution passed in working committee.
