Congress was more concerned about Family Name, present govt worried about Homes: PM

Daltonganj, Jan 5 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi today attacked the Congress party over the
issue of building homes for the poor stating that they were more worried about the family name rather
than worrying about the main goal of providing a roof on the head of the poor.
Addressing the people after laying foundation stones for six projects in Chiyanki Airport grounds here including those related to completion of pending works of the North Koyel project (Mandal Dam) during which Griha Pravesh was also organised for 25,000 beneficiaries of Pradhanmantri Aawas Yojana (PMAY) he assured the people, all poor and homeless will have a concrete roof over their heads by 2022.
He said that earlier also schemes were started for providing the homes for the poor. " You (Congress) got angry when the names of the scheme was changed as you were more worried about the name of the family (Indira Aawas Yojana) but I am more worried about the homes," he said adding he did not fight for name and named scheme after him.
He said, no one remembers where are those homes which have been built on the name of those great people and even they are not aware were is the money which was sanctioned for building those homes.
He said, when the 'Khasdaar' did not get the bribe the names of people in the list of the beneficiaries was no where to be found as earlier big games use to happen in these schemes.
Mr Modi who gave keys to five beneficiaries as a symbolic gesture asked from people as to whether they had to pay any bribe to get homes under PMAY and said that there was no place for any middlemen in this scheme as money was being sent directly into the account of the people.
He said, moreover the government has used the data of the Census of 2011 to decide as to who would get the homes.
Pointing out the various measures taken to ensure transparency in the scheme, he said any one who has been denied as the power to file appeal and the list of the beneficiaries is also displayed at the wall of panchayat bhawans.
On the other hand, bank account of the beneficiaries is also verified so that money can be directly transferred into their accounts he said adding that an eye is also kept on the quality of the homes construction as photographs are taken at three different levels of construction which are geo tagged so that every one can look at them.
He said, people in the name of homes use to only get four walls while they now get homes which has electricity, gas connections and toilets.
