New Delhi, Dec 4 (UNI) Congress Leader and MP Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said the party will take up the fishermen and fisheries sector issues at national level.
While interacting with fishermen leaders of All India Fishermen Congress (AIFC) executive meeting held at AICC headquarters, Rahul Gandhi asked the chairman of AIFC and party MP T N Prathapan to prepare a detailed report on fisheries issues like CRZ, WTO's new regulation on subsidies over the fishing, Indian Marine Fisheries Bill and Blue Economy, said a Congress statement.
The AIFC demanded the withdrawal of WTO's new regulation for removing subsidies on fishing. It said that WTO's new regulation would destroy the lives and livelihood of traditional fishermen. The WTO agreement will have a negative impact on fishermen’s economic structure as India has the largest fisheries population, said a Congress statement.
