Jaipur, Dec 11 (UNI) The opposition Congress was all set to wrest power from the Vasundhra Raje-led BJP government in Rajasthan, with the grand old party tightening its grip on 102 of the 199 assembly seats that went to polls on December 7.
The principal opposition party has won three seats and established comfortable leads in 92 other constituencies.
The ruling party that entered the battle of ballots with 160 seats in the current House, was struggling on the second slot, with win on four seats and leads on another 66.
Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje (Jhalrapatan), Assembly Speaker Kailash Meghwal (Shahpura-SC), AIIC General Secretary and former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot (Sardarpura), Congress state president Sachin Pilot (Tonk), party nominees Union Ministers CP Joshi (Nathdwara), Dr Girija Vyas (Udaipur) and Mahadev Singh Khandela (Khandela) were having unassailable leads.
Speaker Mr Meghwal was having lead of more than 75,000 votes, while CM Ms Raje was having a huge lead of 32,000 votes.
However, many members of the Raje Council of Ministers, including Rajpal Singh Shekhawat, Yunus Khan, Arun Chaturvedi and Prabhu Lal Saini either lost election or were at the verge of a defeat.
Meanwhile, Congress has convened the first meeting of the newly-elected Congress legislative party (CLP) here on Wednesday, to elect the new CLP leader. Central Observer K C Venugopal and AICC General Secretary Avinash Pandey will also attend the meeting.
Meanwhile, the supporters of Mr Gehlot and Mr Pilot gathered at the party state headquarters here and raised slogans in support of Chief Minister's post for their respective leaders.
