Imphal, May 24 (UNI) The Congress party performed exceedingly well in the two Lok Sabha seats of Manipur and was locked in a keen contest with the BJP in the Inner Lok Sabha seat said Manipur Senior Congress president Gaikhangam addressing the media at Congress office here today.
He said the result was not expected and all were surprised however the Congress accepts the verdict of the people he added. Congress has yet to fully reconcile to the turn of events but gracefully accepts the verdict he said. He congratulated the people and the winning candidates.
Congress chief said even though the ruling BJP led front misused powers, resorted to intimidation, mass rigging, booth capturing the Congress candidates got considerable votes. If there was free and fair elections Congress would have won he added.
