Congress pitches old war horse, Sheila Dikshit, as party's CM candidate in UP

New Delhi, Jul 14 (UNI) Putting at rest all speculation that Nehru-Gandhi family scion Ms Priyanka Vadra will be party’s Chief Ministerial candidate in the poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, Congress, in a deft move, today pitched three-time Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit, a familiar “Brahmin face”in the caste ridden state politics, as party’s Chief Ministerial nominee.
Her projection was made two days after film star-turned-politician, Raj Babbar, was made the party’s state president.The team Congress has pulled up its socks ever since veteran leader and former Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad took up charge of the party’s affairs in the state which is all set to go polls in next seven months.
Though the party’s standing in the state polls was rated far below in comparison to state players -- Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party and resurgent BJP-- in the war of perceptions, the Congress has managed to gain some foot hold with these developments, party veterans feel but admit that it was a long way to go before the team makes some impact.
