Congress is in favour of protection of women rights and fighting gender violence: Ishwar Khandre

Bengaluru, Jan 4(UNI) Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) Working President Ishwar Khandre, urged the women organizations to create awareness about several laws meant to protect them against violence and programmes which were aimed at empowerment of the weaker sections in the society.
Addressing the members of the Karnataka unit of the ‘Priyadarshini’ a wing of the AICC Mahila Morcha, here on Friday, Mr Khandre opined that not even 20 per cent of women are aware of about numerous women protection laws came out during the Congress regime both at the Center and in the State.
Stating that the UPA government at the Center had enacted several laws including that of ‘Nirbhaya’, protection against sexual harassment at work places and other Acts, he said that “only Congress can protect the interests of the women in the society”.
