Congress fields Ghasiram Majhi for Nuapada assembly by poll

Bhubaneswar, Oct 7 (UNI) The All India Congress Committee (AICC) today announced Ghasiram Majhi as the party’s candidate for the Nuapada Assembly by-election in Odisha, scheduled to be held on November 11. The AICC General Secretary (Organisation) issued a notification approving the unanimous recommendation of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Bhakta Charan Das and the PCC Political Affairs Committee.
Majhi had earlier contested the Nuapada Assembly seat three times- in 2014, 2019, and 2024. He fought as a Congress candidate in 2014 and 2019, and as an independent in 2024 after being denied a party ticket.
The Congress had instead fielded then Odisha Congress President Sarat Patnaik, who lost to BJD’s four-time MLA Rajendra Dholkia. Dholkia’s demise has necessitated the current bypoll.
