Madurai, Sep 10 (UNI) Normal life remain unaffected in Southern districts of Tamil Nadu, as the Bharat bandh called by the Congress Party and 12-hour strike by the Left Front in protest against the spiraling oil prices evoked diminutive impact on Monday.
Public transport, other vehicles and train services remain unaffected, while some autorickshaws affiliated to the opposition parties remain off the road. Most of the shops and commercial establishments remain opened for usual transaction.
However, all the inter-State bus services to Kerala from Tamil Nadu were suspended since 0600 hours, as a precautionary measure. The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) suspended its services from Tirunelveli, Theni and Kanyakumari districts to Kerala via Puliyarai, Kumuli, Bodi Mettu and Cumbum Mettu check posts, official sources said.
Reports reaching here said unidentified miscreants pelted stones on TNSTC buses damaging the windscreens at various places in Kanyakumari district, prompting the police to step up security measures.
Opposition parties and trade unions have organized protests in several places to condemn the Centre for the unprecedented price hike of oil prices.
Fishermen from the coastal villages in Kanyakumari district did not venture into the sea to express their solidarity for the Bharat bandh.
