New Delhi, May 24 (UNI) Questioning the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Tuticorin firing incident, which left 13 people dead, the Congress on Thursday asked the PM whether the present government in Tamil Nadu is fit to govern the state.
Talking to reporters here, AICC spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, 'the PM, who tweets on every issue, should tell the people the reason for his silence on the issue. 13 people were killed in the police firing. However, not a single human being has been suspended. The officers responsible for the incidents have only been transferred. A judicial inquiry has been appointed without any time limit.'
Describing the incident as 'brutal', Mr Singhvi said an impartial probe should be conducted in to it.
'The probe should not be a mere formality. All those responsible should be punished. Also those in the Centre as well as the state government should apologise for the incident,' he said.
Asking the PM to break his silence on the incident, he said, 'Mr Modi should tell the nation whether, after the Tuticorin incident, he feels if the present government in the state is fit to govern.'
