Vijayawada, Apr 3 (UNI) Congress MP KVP Ramachandra Rao has condemned the attacks against doctors, medical staff and damaging of hospital property by some people when the country is facing the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a statement here on Friday, he said that the attacks against Medical Staff and institutions, damaging the hospital properties, personally injuring the doctors should be condemned by one and all.
The Congress leader demanded that the persons, committing such crimes should be punished.
“As a doctor, I personally condemn such heinous acts and I wish to remind about the Act passed by erstwhile Andhra Pradesh State against the violence on Doctors and Medical Establishments during 2007, when Dr Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy was the Chief Minister of the State.
I request all people to understand the present delicate situation of the country and necessity of safeguarding our medical staff and institutions in this crucial period.
I also request the people to cooperate with Government and strictly follow lockdown instructions to contain the further outbreak of “Covid-19”.
“The Medical Staff are doing this hazardous job round the clock even without having sufficient Personal Protective Equipment.
They are at their duty not only by risking their own life but the life of their family members also. This is highly depressing to note that already about 60 Medical Staff have got infected with the virus while serving the “Covid-19” patients”, Mr Rao said.
