Bengaluru, August 16 (UNI) While Congress and JDS are blaming BJP for Shivamogga communal clash over freedom fighter Veer Savarkar and Tipu Sultan flexes, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday said directions have been given to police to take action in the matter.
"When the process of investigation is going on, it is not right on my part to make any comment. I have given directions to conduct the investigation into the matter and police are doing their duty," he told reporters here.
Meanwhile, the Opposition parties blamed BJP for incidents of communal violence in Shivamogga district.
Leader of the Opposition (LoP) and Congress leader Siddaramaiah asked why should the portrait of Savarkar be put up in Muslim area. "What was the necessity to erect Savarkar's portrait in Muslim area? And why should you dismantle Tipu's photo? Doing such things will result in violence. It is the BJP which does all these things first and blames Congress," he said, reacting to BJP leader and former minister KS Eshwarppa's comments.
Eshwarappa, earlier today, blamed Congress for Shivamogga communal clash. He stated that a man whose wife is a Congress corporator had dismantled Savarkar's flex, leading to communal flare up. The person, he alleged, is a member of Social Democratic party of India, an Islamic outfit, and is in jail now.
Eshwarappa also said "if Hindu society wakes up, Muslim goondas will not last."
Siddaramaiah said that if the BJP claims that the SDPI was behind the Shivamogga communal clash, its government should take action against them.
"If Eshwarappa abstains himself from Shivamogga for six months it would be good for the city. Eshwarappa is repeatedly mentioning Muslim goondas in his comments because elections are nearing. Yediyurappa must swear to god that Eshwarappa is not behind such incidents. Strict action must be taken against him or we will stage protests," Karnataka JDS President CM Ibrahim said.
