Indore, Nov 21 (UNI) The former Prime Minister and senior Congress leader Dr Manmohan Singh on Wednesday said that he hopes that the Congress Government in future will re-implement the Goods and Services Tax (GST) as previously it was introduced in haste and without adequate preparation.
“Small traders and businessmen are worried as the rules are being changed frequently causing a lot of problems for them. I sincerely believe that the Congress Government in future will revisit the GST”, Dr Singh said while addressing a press conference here.
Responding to a question on various subsidy schemes in the state, he said that excess subsidy is not good for the economy but it can be given upto a certain limit.
“You cannot stop this in a country like India where the numbers` of poor are more. We also waived off the loans of farmers that did not affect our General Budget”, the former Prime Minister added.
Answering a question on Congress' inability to keep the legacy of freedom fighters, like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and others, alive, Dr Singh said that Sardar Patel and Subhas Chandra Bose were the great leaders of India and the Congress party respects them a lot.
“Whatever respect is given to them will always be less with regard to their contributions”, the former PM said.
