New Delhi, June 9 (UNI) The Congress on Friday launched a scathing attack at former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat for reportedly lauding Nathuram Godse, and demanded his expulsion from the BJP.
"Former Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat called Nathuram Godse a 'patriot' during a programme. He repeatedly said that Godse was a patriot. On the one hand, (Narendra) Modi ji bows before Bapu (Mahatma Gandhi) when he visits abroad, on the other hand, BJP leaders insult Gandhi ji," said Congress' Communication Department Secretary, Vaibhav Walia at a press conference here, over the recent remarks of Rawat.
He further said, "It is not only an insult to Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation, but the entire nation itself. We want the glorification of Godse should stop in the country."
"Our demand is that Trivendra Singh Rawat should be expelled from BJP," said Walia.
Last week, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, "The reason Godse shot Gandhi was that he could not face the reality of his own life. So, he had to take out his anger on somebody. Gandhi ji was modern, forward looking and open-minded. Godse never spoke about the future, he only spoke about the past. At the heart he was a 'coward'. We follow the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi, not hatred."
