Cong demands debate on China in Parliament

New Delhi, Jan 27 (UNI) The Congress on Friday demanded a discussion on the Chinese issue in the forthcoming Budget Session of Parliament, which is scheduled to be held from January 31.
"Why are we not allowed to discuss about China in Parliament ? We demand a discussion on China in the forthcoming Budget Session of Parliament," said Congress' chairman of Media and Publicity Department, Pawan Khera at a press conference at the party headquarters here.
The Congress had earlier accused the government of running away from a debate on Chinese issue in the recently concluded Winter Session of the Parliament.
"The Modi government did not heed to our demand on having a discussion in the Parliament on this issue. Will it continue to keep the country in the dark or tell the nation the truth about China’s illegal occupation ?," Khera asked.
He added, "The Modi government's continued denial of Chinese illegal occupation and construction of infrastructure has emboldened China and compromised India’s national security. India’s territorial integrity and sovereignty is at stake. We should do everything possible, together to uphold it."
Last week, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "clean chit" to China is costing the nation's territorial integrity.
"The Modi government's continued denial of illegal occupation and construction of infrastructure by the Chinese has 'endangered' our borders," Kharge had tweeted.
The Congress has been demanding the government to take concrete steps over alleged Chinese incursions in various border areas, including in the Northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh.
