New Delhi, Nov 20 (UNI) The Congress on Tuesday lodged a complaint with the Election Commission on alleged cash distribution and tampering of Electronics voting machines by the BJP during the second phase of Chhattisgarh Assembly polls.
A delegation of Congress leaders led by AICC in charge for Chhattisgarh P L Punia and comprising AICC spokesperson Sushmita Deb meet the Election Commission and submitted a memorandum to the EC in this regard.
Talking to reporters here, Mrs Deb said, 'We have lodged a complaint with the EC pertaining to the second phase It is shocking that a candidate of th BJP has been caught with Rs 2 lakh cash and was distributing it a day before the polling. An FIR has been lodged in this regard and the EC has assured that action will be taken.’’
She alleged that in all the centres where the Congress is strong , polling was being systematically delayed .
Alleging tampering of EVMs by the BJP, she said, 'Even more shocking is the fact that a school teacher has been found with an EVM machine in his house.’’
In the memorandum submitted to the EC, the Congress complained that a BJP candidate from Assembly constituency of Samri has been found distributing cash.
'The Representatives of Peoples Act 1951 treats this as a fundamentally corrupt practice. He was caught and the incident has been filmed,’’ the memorandum said.
It also pointed out that EVMs have been found in Chirmiri (Manendragarh Assembly constituency) .
‘’Both these incidents point to insidious attempts on part of certain individuals to infiltrate and influence of the ongoing elections in Chhattisgarh,’’the Congress said in its memorandum.
