Conference on 'Port Development - Leveraging Vizhinjam' on Feb 18

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 14 (UNI) A conference on 'Port-Led Industrialisation and Community Development - Leveraging Vizhinjam' will be held here on February 18.
This conference is held with the objective of discussing and deliberating strategic plan for the development of port-led industries and community development, leveraging Vizhinjam, Mr Rajesh Jha, Chief Executive Officer, Adani Vizhinjam Port, said at a press conference here on Thursday.
The timing of the Conference is so appropriate that it will serve as a Business Summit for International and National investor community.
The participants in the conference will be National and International Trade bodies and Trade Commission of various countries.
The conference would provide an opportunity for policymakers and other officers in the Government to interact with the business community and understand their requirement and concerns.
The discussion and learning would also help the policymakers in framing the policy and strategic development plan for Port Led Industrialisation in the State and also to bring the investment to the State.
Adani Vizhinjam Port signed the Concession Agreement with Government of Kerala on August 17, 2015 to develop and operate Vizhinjam International Seaport.
The port construction started since December 2015 much ahead of the time schedule specified in the Concession Agreement.
The construction activities have progressed significantly except small hiccups in construction of breakwater. Both AVPPL and Government of Kerala are putting all efforts to commission the port at the earliest.
Once the port is commissioned an array of economic and social benefits are expected.
Port led industrialisation will attract high-tech coastal zone manufacturing and processing, Direct and indirect employment to the region, New opportunities and benefits to Tourism , Fisheries and Agriculture sectors, Community development by expending more than Rs 140 crores towards Environment Social Responsibility.
It will lead to cumulative economic cash flow of Rs. 28485 crore in few decades.
Justice (Retd) P Sathasivam, Kerala Governor will be the Chief Guest for the Inaugural Session and Dr Shashi Tharoor, Member of Parliament, Thiruvananthapuram Constituency will be the Chief Guest for the Valedictory Session
The other key dignitaries attending the conference are Ramachnadran Kadannapalli, Minister for Ports; Mr Tom Jose, Chief Secretary, Kerala; Mr Gert Heijkoop, Consul General, Netherlands for Southern India, Dr K Ellangovan, Principal Secretary – Industries and Commerce, Adv. V J Mathew, Chairman, Kerala Maritime Board; Mr Madhu S Nair, Chairman and Managing Director, Cochin Shipyard Ltd; Dr Vinod Thomas, Former Senior Vice President, World Bank; Capt Sandeep Mehta, President, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zones Ltd; Mr Wooi Leong TAN, Senior Director, JURONG – Singapore and Ms Fagun Rajkotia, Research Associate, Centre for Research and Development Foundation (CRDF).
The event is organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in support of Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd and Adani Vizhinjam Port Pvt Ltd.
