Conference on Capacity Building of Sustainable Food Value Chains

New Delhi, Aug 23 (UNI) The National Conference on ''Capacity Building of Sustainable Food Value Chains for Enhanced Food Safety and Quality'' opined to integrate the Academia, Industry, Farmers and Consumers for ensuring supply of safe and quality products to the end consumers.
It was also unanimously agreed that the government has undertaken several initiatives for support of the farmers and food sector yet government may require to promote, newer research areas, infrastructure development and enhancement of capacity of all stakeholders to harness the Resource Efficiency and Technological Development for Productivity, Competitiveness and Sustainability of Food Sector.
The Conference, which concluded on Friday, witnessed the presence of about 200 dignitaries from Government organizations, Academia, Industry, private sector, MSMEs who benefitted from the technical sessions on the theme.
The seven technical sessions on the theme were weaved around topics such as Cold Chain Issues and Challenges and possibilities of Public Private Partnership, Food Losses and Wastage and Mitigation Strategies, Food Safety issues and challenges including commercially sustainable Fruits and Vegetables processing and Challenges faced by Industry regarding Standards and conformity Assessment.
The second day deliberations were held on Promoting Food Safety Culture in the Food Processing Industry, imperatives of Quality Control; Innovative Technologies for Agri Food products, food safe Spices Production; Milk Production Sector and Dairy Value supply Chain initiatives, issues and challenges.
The technical sessions also highlighted need for Agri- Entrepreneurship which could facilitate in Institutional convergence. Further the role and relevance of Accreditation in Food Sector and Supply Chain Management for enhancing Food Safety and Quality of Food Products was also discussed at length.
The Technical Sessions were chaired and convened by experts from Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Dairy and Food Sector, Regulators, UIDAI, National Dairy Development Board, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Quality Council of India, ITC, Reliance Retail, Kwality Dairy, Academia and Industry.
The insights and deliberations during the two days of conference have lead to development of a roadmap and converge the learning for exploring the future opportunities in Food safety, quality, wastages, Entrepreneurship and scope of further research in emerging areas including Product innovations, diversification and trade related aspects.
