Chennai, Jun 23 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi KPalaniswami on Saturday urged Union Minister of Commerce and Industry and Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu to operationalise the Hosur airport and commence flight services to Neyveli and Ramanathapuram under the UDAN scheme.
In a Demi-Official letter to Mr Prabhu, copies of which were released to the media here, he said Hosur was an important industrial hub in Krishnagiri district, which was selected under the UDAN Scheme in the first phase and flight operations were yet to start for want of “No Objection Certificate” from the Bangalore International Airport.
'The Hosur Airport, will be an engine of growth to the industrial hub of Krishnagiri and neighbouring districts', he added.
Stating that it would help in developing the Chennai–Bangalore Industrial Corridor, Mr Palaniswami urged him to instruct the Civil Aviation authorities to make Hosur airport operational immediately.
Pointing out that Neyveli has also been selected in the Phase-I of UDAN scheme and bidding process with airline operators has been completed, he requested Mr Prabhu to take necessary steps to bring flight operations to Neyveli as early as possible.
Mr Palaniswami also said Ramanathapuram has been included in the Phase-II of the UDAN Scheme.
Pointing out that Rameswaram was an important pilgrimage and tourism centre, attracting tourists from all over India, he requested Mr Prabhu to take steps to start air operations to Ramanathapuram as expeditiously as possible by starting the bidding process.
The Chief Minister also thanked him for the efforts taken by his Ministry to promote air connectivity between regions under the UDAN Scheme in the State and said people in and around Salem district have welcomed the scheme and were benefitted by the flight services to Salem Airport.
