Vijayawada, Jun 26 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu released water from Prakasam barrage reservoir to the East Krishna Delta (EKD) for irrigation purpose. The Chief Minister released 2,500 cusecs of water by switching on motors at Main Head Sluice here today. Talking to newsmen later, Mr Naidu said that water for the EKD was released 20 days before the scheduled time. He said that every year water for irrigation purpose used to be released to the EKD during August but this year water was released in June itself. If the farmers began farming activities now, they could harvest the crop at the earliest which enable them to save crop from cyclones. The Chief Minister said that if water level is 14 feet above in river Godavari, the Godavari water would be diverted to river Krishna through Pattiseema Lift Irrigation project to fill the Prakasam barrage through which water could be provided Krishna East and West deltas. Mr.Naidu regretted that 2,500 TMC of Godavari river water goes waste into the sea every year. He reiterated that the construction Polavaram project, across the river Godavari would be completed in the stipulated time. The Chief Minister said that shopping malls and hotels would be constructed between Prakasam barrage and RTC bus station area.
