CM Biren scores in exhibition match, inaugurates youth league

Imphal, Feb 7 (UNI) Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh showed he still had the

touch as he scored a beautiful goal during an exhibition match between CM XI and

CS XI played last night.

The match between the legislators and bureaucrats and police was played during

the inauguration of flood light system at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium, here.

Speaker Y Khemchand after bringing the ball in the right flank passed the ball to

CM Biren who was in the centre. Biren scored as the stadium exploded with cheers.

The team led by Chief Secretary Suresh Babu which had large numbers of skilled

players also managed to.score a goal. L. Nandakumar scored the goal for Chief

Secretary XI thus concluding the match 1-1.

It was a keenly competitive match as many of the ministers and MLAs were good

players.

Chief Minister said that it was indeed a historical and emotional moment for the people

of the State.

He thanked the Sports Minister Letpao Haokip, officials of YAS, officials of PHILIPS

Company for early completion of flood light system before stipulated time.

Mr Biren informed that the construction of astro-turf football ground at Langjing

Achouba, Imphal West will be completed soon.

He further maintained that another three more artificial football turf with flood

lighting system will be constructed in the state soon.

The chief minister maintained that sports are the only way to keep our youths away

from drug addiction in the State.

Mr Biren also inaugurated the RK Jaichandra Singh Manipur Youth League 2020,

first of its kind in the entire North East India.

The opening match of the League was played between Classic Football Academy

and HIYAI Football Academy. Altogether 11 teams are participating in the League.
