Chandigarh, Mar 16 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday announced
to honour women boxer Simranjit Kaur with a cash award of Rs 5 lakh, first pugilist from the state
to qualify for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
Disclosing this here on Monday a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that Sports
Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi accompanied by Simranjit Kaur and her family members met
Captain Amarinder Singh here this morning.
Congratulating Simrajit Kaur for this rare feat, the CM said that she had really made Punjab and every Punjabi proud and wished her best of luck for stellar performance in the Tokyo Olympics this year.
He hoped that Simranjit Kaur would be a role model for other girls to excel in arena of sports.
Amarinder also assured that the state government would extend all possible support and cooperation
to her in future too.
Meanwhile, sports minister assured the boxer a suitable government job as per her eligibility.
Having started her career from native village Chakar in Ludhiana district, the pugilist has bagged
silver in Asian boxing championship 2019, bronze in senior world championship 2018, bronze in junior women championship 2013.
