Dindigul, Aug 6 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday announced that free rice would be distributed to all eligible family cardholders till November in the state.
Mr Palaniswami, after chairing an official meeting here to review various government schemes and the measures taken to tackle the spread of COVID-19 in this district said people had been given free ration and cash assistance in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic. Mr Palaniswami said Tamil Nadu had done the highest number of COVID-19 tests in the country. The state is continuing to test the more number of people compared with other states and has adequate stocks of RT-PCR kits which provided accurate results of the tests.
He said 43,578 COVID-19 tests had been done in Dindigul district so far and the contagion had begun to have a declining trend in the district due to various preventive measures taken by the government.
Tamil Nadu would continue with the existing two-language policy of Tamil and English and there is no change in it, he said.
Mr Palaniswami laid the foundation stone for 42 new projects at an estimated cost of Rs 8.69 crore in the district and also distributed welfare measures to beneficiaries to the tune of Rs 2.96 crore.
The state government had announced free essential commodities to ration cardholders during the lockdown in April and May, and later extended the relief measure to June and July to mitigate the hardship caused due to the lockdown.
