Clouded Leopard mascot for National Games 2022 in Meghalaya

Shillong, Feb 11 (UNI) Clouded Leopard, the state animal of Meghalaya will be the mascot for the National Games 2022, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh said on Monday.
Chairing the first executive committee meeting of the National Games 2022, Lyngdoh said a competition will be conducted by the Information and Public Relation department along with the Education department which will be opened to all to finalize the Logo and the Theme of the National Games.
Clouded Leopard is one of the wild cats that inhabit the forests of Garo, Khasi and Jaintia Hills.
He said the members had agreed that the Clouded leopard will be the mascot for the National Games.
“A competition to design a smiling clouded leopard will however be opened to all,” he said.
Moreover, Lyngdoh said a Sub-Committee, headed by the Chief Executive Officer of the games, will be formed. The Secretariat will submit a report to the National games Organising Committee to finalize the number of sporting events, venues and sports infrastructure.
He also informed the members that the main stadium will be funded by the Ministry of Social Justice.
The Stadium will be constructed on government land of approximately 50 acres in Mawdiangdiang at a cost of Rs. 300 crore, he added.
The meeting attended by senior government officials and members of Meghalaya State Olympics Association also agreed that 64.34 acres of land will be acquired from Meghalaya Urban Development Authority to construct the Games Village.
He said a total of approximately 114.34 acres of land has been identified for critical infrastructure for the national games.
“The Master Plan will be compiled by the Director Sports and Youth Affairs department and submitted to the Chairman of National Games Organising Committee who is also the Chief Minister (Conrad Sangma) in the first week of May,” Lyngdoh said.
Meghalaya police chief R Chandranathan agreed to talent spotting in the police Department and decided to give incentives to Sports Persons.
“A policy to implement the same will be drafted by the police department. While the National Informatic Centre along with state’s information and technology department will develop a website for the National Games,” Lyngdoh said.
Meanwhile, the government has appointed Peter S Dkhar as an interim Chief Executive Officer of the Games Secretariat.
