CLE to organise “Soles for Souls” Marathon in Chennai on Sep 28 to promote drug-free society

Chennai, Sep 16 (UNI) The Council for Leather Exports (CLE), sponsored by the Union
Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and CLE Employees Charitable Trust will organize
the second edition of “Soles for Souls” Marathon--‘Run for Drug-Free Society’ on
September 28 here.
The primary focus of the Marathon was to raise awareness about drug free society besides
promoting the brand image of footwear and leather industry.
The first edition, held last year attracted over 4,500 participants, including runners, students,
youth, NGOs, workers and corporates.
This landmark event, which will start from Napier Bridge, aims to bring together over 10,000
runners, to support a noble cause that affects us all.
Talking to reporters here today, CLE Executive Director R. Selvam said “As we march towards
our goal of becoming a Developed Nation, it is important to have healthier minds and physique."
The Soles for Souls marathon aims at not only creating awareness about the adverse health
and psychological effects of drugs, but to promote healthier lifestyle as well, he said.
"I thank all our industry members and educational institutions for showing tremendous
enthusiasm in participating in this event. I am sure that with such kind of immense support,
the marathon will grow year after year", he added.
The marathon will feature three categories viz., 3 km-Minimum age 8 years, 5 km-Minimum
age 12 Years and 10 km-Minimum age 16 years.
Each participant will be provided a T-Shirt, Finisher Medal, E-Certificate and Race Day
Hydration and breakfast.
The marathon is expected to not only raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse
and its impact on society, but also promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage physical
activity among runners and also foster a sense of community and camaraderie among
participants.
The Marathon is being organized with the support of the Tamil Nadu Government and
in partnership with the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC), SIPCOT,
Greater Chennai Police and more than 42 educational and training institutions and
colleges in Chennai city.
CLE is the largest and the apex trade promotion organization for India's growing footwear,
leather and leather products industry.
Committed to the sector's domestic development and boosting export growth, CLE aims
to increase India's share in global footwear and leather trade.
