BHOPAL: A voluntary body, mainly comprising Indian Armed Forces veterans and former senior bureaucrats working for multi-pronged betterment of the Madhya Pradesh capital, has expressed profound concern regarding the health of the Upper Lake (Bhojtaal) that supplies potable water to 40 % of this city’s residents.
As per a central notification, it constitutes a major part of a wetland of considerable importance under the Ramsar Convention and is essential to preservation of environmental and ecological balance, the Bhopal Citizens’ Forum noted.
On September 7, 2012; Chief Minister S.S. Chouhan held a meeting regarding Bhojtaal’s preservation. However, action is yet to be initiated vis-à-vis the following orders.
