CII Goa organises first Quality Circle Competition for Goan industry

Panaji, Aug 2 (UNI) The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Goa State Office, organised the 1st edition of the ‘Quality Circle Competition - Goa State Level’ on Thursday in the city.
The CII Quality Circle Competitions have always been a great learning opportunity for both, the companies who are competing, as well as the companies who join as participants. The competition was an opportunity to motivate workers to form Quality Circles within their companies and also providing them a platform to exchange ideas and share their experiences.
As many as 14 companies from various sectors participated in the state level competition as a part of CII's continuous thrust towards strengthening the Quality movement in India. Senior managers, supervisors and management personnel took advantage of the opportunity to get an insight into some of the outstanding examples of Quality Circles and to understand how to promote and encourage the QC movement within their own organization.
Addressing the audience at the inaugural Lalit Saraswat, Chairman, CII Goa State Council, spoke about the concept of a Quality Circle, which is a participatory management technique that helps employees in solving problems related to their own jobs.
''Circles are formed of employees working together in an operation who meet at intervals to discuss problems of quality and to devise solutions for improvements. Employees who participate in quality circles usually receive training in formal problem-solving methods—such as brain-storming, pareto analysis, and cause-and-effect diagrams—and are then encouraged to apply these methods either to specific or general company problems. After completing an analysis, they often present their findings to management and then handle implementation of approved solutions,'' he said.
He mentioned various initiatives carried out by CII, pertaining to creating and sustaining an environment conducive to the growth of industry.
One such initiative that CII Goa State had begun was the Quality Circle Competition, he said and expressed his satisfaction over the overwhelming response received at the First Edition of the QC Competition from the industries across Goa.
He said the robust participation in the event indicated that there was a widespread use of quality tools among companies in Goa which would ultimately result in delivering quality products to the end user.
He applauded the huge amount of enthusiasm and passion displayed by all the participating teams and encouraged them to continue their concerted efforts to improve quality and productivity in the industry.
Siemens Limited were the winners of the Competition, while Danlaw Electronics Assembly Limited and Godrej & Boyce Mfg. Co. Ltd bagged the second and third placed respectively. Vedanta Ltd and Pentair Water India Pvt Ltd were awarded Appreciation Awards in medium and Large-scale Categories. The five winners from Goa State level competition will compete at the Regional and National level competitions to be held in 2020.
