Chattisgarh: Stage set for final phase of polling, Independents may play spoilsport

New Delhi/Raipur, Nov 19 (UNI) Stage is set for the second and final phase of polls to 72 assembly constituencies in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday, November 20, which saw high turnout in the first phase of polling on November 12.
However, a critical element that has come to light vis-a-vis this year's elections in the state is the presence of as many as 561 Independent candidates and this by by far is the largest number in last 15 years.
This year for 90 assembly seats in the state, there are altogether 561 Independent candidates in the fray and this surpasses the previous record of 387 in 2008. In 2013, the number of Independent candidates stood at 357 while in 2003, the number was fairly modest at 254.
