Change in GI tag of Makhana not acceptable : Mishra

Patna, Aug 25 (UNI) Congress MLC Prem Chandra Mishra on Tuesday strongly opposed any move to change GI tag of Makhana of Mithila, saying it was a conspiracy to destroy the identity of Mithila.
Mr Mishra demanded from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to intervene into attempt of Sabour Agricultural University to change the GI tag of Makhana of Mithila saying it would destroy the identity of this wonderful product of Mithila region. Makhana was definitely an agriculture product of Mithila and there should not be any attempt to change it, he said.
" How could GI tag of Makhana of Mithila be changed as Makhana of Bihar ", he asked and added could Banana of Hajipur be known as Banana of Bihar and locks of Aligarh be known as locks of Uttar Pradesh. A number of such examples could be cited to prove the point that there was no need to change the tag of Makhana, he stressed.
