Chandrashekar Rao re-elected 'unopposed' as TRS Chief

Chandrashekar Rao re-elected 'unopposed' as TRS Chief

Hyderabad, Oct 25 (UNI) Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was re-elected 'unopposed' as the President of ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Monday, the party he formed in 2001 with a single-point agenda of creating a separate state, by bifurcating Andhra Pradesh, with Hyderabad as its Capital.
Former TRS MLC and returning officer for the election Srinivas Reddy announced that Mr Rao was unanimously elected as the TRS President, ahead of the party’s 19th plenary which began at Hitex here today.
“A total of 18 sets of nominations were received.
There was only one name, of K Chandrashekar Rao, in all the 18 sets of nominations.
All those who filed the nominations sought the leadership of Mr Rao ,” the returning officer said.
There were no other contenders for the post being held by the Chief Minister since the inception of the party on April 27, 2001.
More than 60 lakh members of the party including Ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and others have made the choice unanimously.
The party will conduct a massive meeting at Warangal on November 15 to celebrate 20 years of its journey and its achievements
As per the party bylaws, the party president’s election should be held every two years. It has also been a tradition to organise the party plenary on April 27 every year marking the party’s foundation day.
However, both of them could not be held for the last three years, due to Lok Sabha poll in 2019 and Covid-19 pandemic since the last two years.
In the plenary session, attended by 14,000 TRS elected representatives from across the state, extensive discussions will be held on state-level issues as well as other issues.
The party leaders and workers, who were present at the Telangana Bhavan, the TRS party headquarters here, raised slogans and distributed sweets after Mr Rao was re-elected as party Chief.
Mr Rao, who was Deputy Speaker in the then undivided Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly when N Chandrababu Naidu was the Chief Minister, quit the TDP and formed the TRS here in 2001 to fight for the cause of a separate Telangana state.
After the Assembly election in 2014, he became the first Chief Minister of Telangana on June 2, 2014, the day the new state came into existence.
