Nellore, Feb 22 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu was conspicuous by his absence at a function attended by President Ram Nath Kovind and organised by a Trust backed by Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu.
The Chief Minister was instead represented by two ministers from his cabinet.
This appears to be the fallout of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) break-up with National Democratic Alliance (NDA), a source said.
The President was received at the Parade Ground helipad by Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narasimhan.
Speaking on the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the Swaran Bharat Trust here, Mr Kovind called upon youth to return to roots and give back to the society--the underprivileged and the poor.
"One must not forget that whatever one has achieved, it is because of what was given to them by the society," he said after beginning his speech in Telugu to the happiness of the audience.
In his address, Mr Naidu said he was happy that instead of getting into politics and furthering "dynasty politics" his children had dedicated to the welfare of under-privileged people through their activities.
The Swarna Bharat Trust, dedicated to the service of rural population including deserted senior citizens (Elders), dropout school children (in bridge schools), is run by family and friends of the Vice- President. His daughter Deepa Venkat is the Managing Trustee.
The refuge for Elders was inaugurated earlier by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
