Centrral Excise , service tax revenue enhanced in Puducherry

Puducherry, March 15 (UNI) Mr. U Niranjan, Commissioner, Commissionarate of Central Excise Puducherry today said Central Excise Duty (CED) and Service Tax (ST) revenue has grown marginally in the current financial year to an extent of only 5 to 6 pe rcent, compared to 30 to 35 per cent growth nationally..
Talking to newspersons here Mr.Niranjan said the collections from CED is expected to reach Rs 490 to Rs 495 crores and Rs 270 crores from ST by the end of March. In the previous year (2014-2015) the collections has been 476 crores from CED and Rs 235 crores from ST .he added.
The low growth in revenue has been primarily due to nominal growth in industries and no major industrial unit coming here, Niranjan said adding that besides the shifting of base of major industry like NCR – Manufacturing unit from Puducherry to Chenglepet , production coming down for Hindustan Unilever –Skin care unit , L & T concentrating on Exports , sugar units not doing well , while cement industry remaining stagnant has made the growth stagnant.
