Centre showing step-motherly attitude towards Himachal: Kewal Singh Pathania

Dharamshala, Oct 5 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania on Saturday accused the Central Government of adopting a step-motherly attitude towards the hill state, saying that Himachal’s unique geographical and financial challenges were being ignored in policy decisions.
KS Pathania told UNI that the Centre has fixed a uniform net borrowing limit of three per cent for all states, “but it seems unaware that a small and hilly state like Himachal Pradesh has needs very different from those of the plains.”
Calling this “one-size-fits-all” policy unjust, he pointed out that the state’s Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG) has fallen sharply from Rs 10,249 crore in 2021-22 to Rs 3,257 crore, reflecting the state’s fiscal discipline. “Himachal has worked hard to achieve a 9.05 per cent annual growth in its own income, while central transfers and grants have increased by only 3.99 per cent, which is far from sufficient to meet the state’s needs,” he added.
