Chennai, Jul 6 (UNI) The Union Government was providing 90 per cent subsidy to weavers for their handlooms and accessories under the Hathkargha Samvardhan Sahayata (HSS) Yojana, Union Textiles Minister Ms Smriti Irani said on Friday.
Speaking after felicitating handloom exporters at the 28th National Handloom award function here, she said the scheme, launched in August 2016, meets the needs of the handloom weavers for assistance on a larger scale for looms and accessories.
The Scheme aims to provide financial assistance for technological upgradation to improve quality of the fabric and productivity, she added.
She said under HSS, financial assistance to the extent of 90 per cent of cost of technological up-gradation item would be borne by the Centre, while the remaining 10 per cent would be borne by the beneficiary.
The Textiles Minister also urged the weavers to utilise the benefits provided under schemes like the MUDRA, which was bringing about dramatic changes in the Indian Economy.
Stating that 28 per cent of the beneficiaries under the MUDRA scheme were new entrepreneurs and 70 per cent of them were women, Ms Smriti Irani said Tamil Nadu was one of the states, which has majority of the
beneficiaries under the scheme.
