New Delhi, Feb 4 (UNI) The Centre on Saturday notified the appointment of 5 Judges to the Supreme Court, taking the judges strength in the Top Court to 32, against a sanctioned strength of 34.
The 5 judges whose appointments have been notified by the Centre to the Supreme Court are as follows-
Justice Pankaj Mithal, Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court, Justice Sanjay Karol, Chief Justice of Patna High Court, Justice P. V. Sanjay Kumar, Chief Justice of Manipur High Court, Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah, Judge, Patna High Court, and Allahabad HC judge, Justice Manoj Misra, has been notified by the Centfe as Supreme Court judges.
With a sanctioned strength of 34 judges in the Supreme Court, now, as of today, there are 2 vacancies now in the SC.
India's Minister of law and Justice, Kiren Rijiju, in his tweet, extended his good wishes to the newly judges elevated to the Supreme Court.
"As per the provisions under the Constitution of India, President of India has appointed the following Chief Justices and Judges of the High Courts as Judges of the Supreme Court. I extend best wishes to all of them," Rijiju said in his tweet.
Yesterday, the Attorney General (AG) of India ), R Venkataramani, top law officer appearing for the Central government, had assured the Supreme Court that the new appointments of 5 judges will be may be by Sunday.
This development comes today, as the Supreme Court expressed its displeasure over the Central government's delaying process in not considering the names of judges to be elevated as SC judges, despite the SC Collegium cleared their names for the same.
