Centre approves projects of Rs 179.85 cr for Tripura

Agartala, Jul 22 (UNI) The Inter-Ministerial Committee on North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) under Ministry of DoNER has approved three projects of Rs 179.85 cr for Tripura, as committed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the swearing in ceremony of the BJP-IPFT government in the state.

The officials here today stated that in a meeting of the Inter Ministerial committee of DoNER was agreed to fund three schemes related to infrastructure in principle. Implementation of the schemes will commence once the DPRs are submitted for financial sanction.

The projects included the construction of Rain Water Reservoir on Upper catchment of River Howrah near Champaknagar, construction of Rain Water Reservoir on Champacherra near Champaibari along with rejuvenation of Katakhal drain of the city and construction of 132 KV Sub-station at Kanchanpur along with 132 KV Single Circuit Transmission Line from Kanchanpur.

The water reservoir projects are expected to extend the benefit of irrigation, the cropping intensity in the area and it could be increased to 220 per cent after construction of these two dams. However, project for construction of water reservoir on the catchment area of river Howrah and Champacherra has been taken up with the objective of flood control.

The proposed projects would also address the problem of water supply for Agartala city and provide a long term solution for the city dwellers. It is also proposed to setup water sports and other activities based on the Water Reservoir for tourism facilities in the future.

Moreover drinking water supply to Agartala city will also be assured besides mitigation of severe flood problem. The tourism will get a big boost by creating two huge water bodies surrounded by undiluted beauty of nature, the officials stated.

The construction of 132 KV Sub-station at Kanchanpur and 132 KV Transmission Line from Kanchanpur to Vanghmun,, the bordering village of Mizoram in North Tripura will ensure stable regular power supply in the villages.
