New Delhi, Aug 21 (UNI) Centre on Wednesday appointed present Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba as next Cabinet Secretary of India.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Mr Gauba with a tenure two years from August 30, 2019 or until further order whichever is earlier.
A 1982 batch IAS officer of Jharkhand cadre will join as Officer on Special Duty in the Cabinet Secretariat from the date of his assumption of charge till takes over as Cabinet Secretary.
The incumbent Cabinet Secretary PK Sinha will retire on August 30.
A 1982-batch IAS officer of Jharkhand cadre, 60-year-old Rajiv Gauba took over as Home Secretary in 2017 for a fixed two-year tenure.
Mr Gauba has wide-ranging experience in senior positions at policy making and programme implementation in both central and state governments and in international organisations. Born in Punjab in 1959, Gauba had graduated in Physics from Patna University.
He had served in Jharkhand as the chief secretary for 15 months before joining the central government last year. Gauba has also served in the central government's ministries of home, defence, finance, environment and forests and department of electronics and information technology in different positions.
