Centre announces Rs 1-cr award for 'Most Film Friendly State'

New Delhi, Dec 10 (UNI) In order to give a boost to the ease of film shooting in the country, the Centre today announced that a cash component of Rs 1-crore will be given to the 'Most Film Friendly State'.
The announcement was made by the Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu while addressing the 28th state Information Ministers Conference (SIMCON) here.
At present, he said, the award carries a medal (Rajat Kamal) and a certificate only. The Minister suggested that the prize money may be used by the winning state towards film facilitation in the states.
Mr Naidu said the focus of the agenda of the meeting among other aspects of information dissemination is also on enhancing the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ to promote India as Filming Destination.
Moreover, the idea is also for pushing digitisation of TV sets, effective use of social media, taking full advantage of All India Radio, Doordarshan and Publications Division, he said.
Highlighting the role of communication in behaviour change, Mr Naidu referred to Swachh Bharat Mission and the recent demonetisation initiative. Both were socio-economic transformation in nature with long term gain for the country.
The Minister also urged the states to do more effective campaigns under Swachh Bharat Mission. The Minister also laid emphasis for evolving a comprehensive 'national information and communication policy' and said in order to push integrated development, the Centre and the states should work together as 'Team India' in various areas, including in dissemination of effective information. "We need an integrated and holistic approach and coordination between the Centre and states is essential," Mr Naidu said.
Elaborating on the proposed contours of the policy, he said, the broad objectives should be to enhance access to information and communication infrastructures and new technologies, especially in rural areas.
The new policy should also help promote national dialogue on development issues by all citizens and facilitate informed participation of people in setting development agenda and its execution; it must rationalise multi-sectoral investments in information and communication hardware and software.
