Central team in Assam to review COVID preparedness

Guwahati, Jun 5 (UNI) A three-member Central team is on a week long visit to Assam to review the ongoing COVID-19 situation.
The team will also review the overall management and preparedness of the State and guide the State accordingly.
The team has been deployed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The team consists of protocol officer Ajay Tiwari, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, and two senior Public Health Specialists Dr NN Naskar and Dr Snigdha Basu from All India Institute of Hygiene & Public Health.
The team arrived here yesterday (Thursday) and visited the Screening and Sampling Center at Kiranshree Grand hotel, followed by a visit to the microbiology laboratory at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital here.
The team visited the dedicated COVID facility at MMC Hospital and Sarusajai Quarantine Center here today.
They also met Kumar Sanjay Krishna, Chief Secretary, Government of Assam, Samir Kumar Sinha, Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare department, and Dr Lakshmanan S, Mission Director, National Health Mission, Assam, and had a detailed discussion and understanding of the COVID situation of the State.
The team will subsequently visit various districts of the state to assess the COVID preparedness of the districts and after completing their visit the team will brief the state and will give their necessary feedback.
Altogether 2153 positive cases of COVID 19 have been detected in the state, out of which 498 have recovered and four have died.
