CDFD helped Centre in big way on drafting DNA Technology Bill, 2018: Harsha Vardhan

CDFD helped Centre in big way on drafting DNA Technology Bill, 2018: Harsha Vardhan

Hyderabad, Aug 12 (UNI) Union Minister of Science and Technology Harsha Vardhan on Sunday said that the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) has helped the Union government in a big way over drafting DNA Technology (Use and Application) Regulation Bill, 2018.

Talking to newsmen after dedicating new campus of CDFD at Uppal in the city to the Nation, Mr Harsha Vardhan said that the DNA Technology (Use and Application) Regulation Bill, 2018 was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Thursday and hoped that it will be passed in next one or two sessions.

He said the Bill is the brainchild of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. 'After 15 years of journey, the Bill is now introduced in the Parliament (Lok Sabha). It would help in many ways including forensic aspect, missing children and terrorism related aspects', he added.

Mr Harsha Vardan said the CDFD contribution was very immense in quality testing and diagnostics. It was recognized in the entire country as well as abroad. It also played prominent role in testing of Basmati Rise, the Minister said.

The Union Minister said the two clusters or hubs—CDFD and National Institute of Animal Biotechnology (NIAB) (which was dedicated to the nation here on Saturday) would play a great role in moving forward of science in the country.

Earlier at the gathering, the Minister, while quoting the scientist community stated that earlier there is “Brain Dry”, now “Brain Gain”. Thanks to BJP-led NDA government headed by Prime Narendra Modi.

Earlier the Indian scientists were preferred to go to other countries. Now they are willing to come back to serve the country. More than 100 reputed scientists had came back to the country and some of them are expressing their willingness to come to India, he said.

The Union Minister hoped to fulfill the Prime Minister’s aim to deliver people as new India by 2022 and among the top 3 nations in Science output by 2030.
