CBSE restores previous fee for SC/ST students

CBSE restores previous fee for SC/ST students

New Delhi, Aug 13 (UNI) As the hike in board examination fee drew severe criticism from various stakeholders, the CBSE on Tuesday announced to restore the previous rule of Rs 50 from the student while the rest amount from the state government for those belonging to SC/ST category.

The CBSE stated that on the direction of the Human Resource and Development Minister, it was decided to restore practice of depositing only Rs 50 on cbse registration portal from SC/ST students of Delhi government schools.

Delhi government will bear the increased cost of Board exam fee of SC/ST students, the examination body said.

"For the remaining amount, CBSE will take up reimbursement of increased fees directly with Delhi state government after finalising list of candidates.

This has been informed to Delhi government," the CBSE.

But for other states, the Board has not yet issued any statement.

For class 10th and 12th, exam registration fee for SC/ST students is decided at Rs 1200 while for General category Rs 1500.

The fee hike is required for self sustenance and to maintain CV quality in examination, evaluation and overcome the financial deficit, the board said.

The huge increase in cost of papers, printing of confidential material, transportation, storage and other logistics, increased cost for use of new technological interventions are the reasons for the hike.

Increase in number of evaluators and invigilators on each day of the exams, also honorarium of Evaluators was increased by 33 per cent.

Earlier, for all students in rest of the country, the fees was Rs 750 (or Rs 150 per subject) which has been raised to Rs 1500 (or Rs 300 per subject).

It was also stated that there was no fee for the visually impaired students.

For Delhi, the fees earlier used to be Rs 375 for SC/ST students. Of Rs 375, the students paid only Rs 50 and rest Rs 325 was reimbursed by Delhi government.

The general category students of Delhi were earlier paying Rs 750 like rest of India, and will now pay Rs 1500.

With this increase, the Board fee is now comparable to the other central board like the NIOS.

The NIOS charges Rs 1,800 for male candidates, Rs 1,450 for females and Rs 1,200 for SC/ST candidates at secondary level.

Similarly, at senior secondary level, it charges Rs 2000, 1,750 and 1,300 for male, female and SC/ST candidates respectively. For every additional subject NIOS charges Rs 720.

CBSE is a self financed body, and the board works on no profit no loss basis.
